Assessment Information
The NCTVET offers assessment services to public and private institutions, companies and individuals. Assessment services are offered during any of the following three (3) established cycles:
- February
- June
- November
The NCTVET employs the use of the following assessment modalities:
- Institutional – This type of assessment is done through training sites such as public and private schools or centres. Candidates are required to do both an external practical as well as a written assessment.
- On-The-Job – Provides a flexible way of awarding occupational qualifications at the work site/place. This type of assessment places emphasis on the practical demonstration of competencies as they are performed while on the job.
- Certification of Prior Learning (CPL) – This is a process by which individuals can obtain certification, based on their evidence from past experiences, achievement (education/training) or work. This process allows for the assessment and formal certification of current competence. To facilitate the assessment process, candidates are asked to submit evidence of their competence in the form of a portfolio.
- Challenge Test – This is a process of assessing individuals who are confident that they possess the required experience and are ready to demonstrate evidence of this. This process is geared towards persons who do not require any training in the skill because they have been working in the field and are very good at what they do. The Challenge Test is done through the administration of both a practical and written assessment. Challenge Tests are however administered only for Levels 1 and 2.
