The Occupational Standards Development Department (OSDD) is mandated to conduct extensive research and develop Packages of Competency Standards for National Vocational Education and Training. These Standards are in alignment with other Regional and International Standards and Qualifications and in compliance with the National Qualification Framework of Jamaica.

The OSDD is also responsible for the development of Facilities Standards which outline the requirements of physical features, materials and equipment that are required by training providers to establish and conduct specific training programmes.

The Department also spearheads the alignment and evaluations of credentials and programmes.
