The Examinations Department is responsible for developing and administering assessments, leading to the granting of certification for the National Vocational Qualification of Jamaica (NVQ-J), Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) and Job Certificate.  Assessment services are provided to over 40,000 clients per annum from the Ministry of Education schools, Private and HEART institutions, as well as private candidates within Jamaica and the Caribbean. The main areas of responsibilities of the Examinations Department are to:

1. Source, train and contract assessors, verifiers, markers, writers and reviewers
2. Develop and standardize Assessment Instruments
3. Assemble Assessment Instruments
4. Prepare assessment related documents
5. Plan and co-ordinate assessment activities
6. Process, compile and prepare Assessment Results for release
7. Co-ordinate the Assessment Appeals process
8. Ensure security and integrity of the Assessment process
